Hassan El-Amin began conga drumming in Detroit, Michigan in the mid 1960s. He was
inspired by the Motown sound, James Brown and others. Scores of local musical geniuses nurtured and supported him.

Hassan left Detroit in the late 1970s to pursue a musical career in Hollywood, California. He played live performances, sound and video productions. Hassan performed with many renowned entertainers including: Roy Ayers, Bo Didley, Little Milton, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Poncho Sanchez and others.

Hassan returned to Detroit in the mid 1980s as a musical educator. He founded Primal Rhythms Drum Studios in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In addition to being an educator and demonstrator of Detroit Conga Hand Technique, Hassan serves as a NIRMV Board of Director and Music Advisor/Consultant.
