Kudos to list founders Shirley Berry and Darlene House.  Salute to sustaining supporters especially NIRMV Literacy Chair Erica Dean. Instead of eating cake, the NIRMV team delivered 21 books to kids throughout the country. The 2020 Recommended Reading List Kids Edition is posted at nirmvkids.org. Read On!

Reading Rewards Stay-At-Home Party

On ARISE Detroit Neighborhoods Day, NIRMV held its first Reading Rewards Stay-At-Home Party. This August 1, 2020 event served as a great way to debut our 2020 Recommended Reading List Kids Edition. Our youngest participants were 4 years old. The oldest participants were 16 years old. Every participant received a kit with the list plus age-appropriate activity sheets and treats. Enthusiasm was evident and feedback was incredibly positive as shown in photos below. Special thanks to Allean H. House who served as chair for both the list and party. The efforts of team members Vice President James Hines, Treasurer Cynthia Hines and Youth Services Coordinator Jackie Butts were very much appreciated. We also salute the Deemettes of 54 for being the largest group of participants.

NIRMV Book Drive Benefits Crossroads for Youth

NIRMV Teen Activity/Puzzle Book Drive exceeded expectations. We were able to donate 325 items to Crossroads for Youth on September 25, 2020. In addition, 20 coloring/activity books were also donated to the great community resource center. Thanks to Chair Leona Phillips and Co Chair Jackie Butts for delivering the donations.

Join in the Celebration for NIRMM 2020

It is almost November! NIRMV is so excited because that is the time set aside for National Inspirational Role Models Month (NIRMM), our annual signature.celebration month. This year, we decided to focus on sports with the 2020 theme "Gaining Inspiration from Sports and the Spirit of Champions." Appropriately, our 2020 Historic Role Model is Olympic Champion Jesse Owens. Learn more about him and other sports pioneers plus their legacies. Get enlightened about sports topics and trivia. Engage in fun activities. Shop for official celebration items. You can do all of this by visiting www.nirmm.wordpress.com. In addition, your kids can also have age-appropriate sports experiences or participate in contests at www.nirmvkids.org. As our ongoing NIRMM theme states, Celebrate Who Inspires You. What a great cause for celebration!

NIRMV Salutes 2020 Partner of the Year

Prince Hall Grand Youth Fraternity, Jurisdiction of Michigan

National Inspirational Role Models Visionaries (NIRMV) loves giving recognition where it is due. As a 501 (c) (3) public charity, we were encouraged to carry on amid challenging times. By partnering with the Prince Hall Grand Youth Fraternity, Jurisdiction of Michigan (Grand Youth Fraternity), NIRMV was able to evolve some of our signature events/projects plus launch new ones. Aspects sustained included NIRMV Recommended Reading List Kids Edition and community service drives. Notable launches included NIRMV Inspiring High School Grads and Reading Rewards Stay-At-Home Party. The Grand Youth Fraternity was our largest group of participants for Reading Rewards. NIRMV strongly believes, even during a pandemic, it is important to keep our youth inspired and positively engaged for ongoing success. We remain grateful to Grand Youth Fraternity Chair Jackie Butts, Adult Advisor Leona Phillips and other leaders/parents who avidly supported NIRMV efforts. NIRMV salutes our 2020 Partner of the Year again with sincerest wishes for continued growth and success.

Stepping Out With Rhosebuds at Literacy Month Event

NIRMV enjoyed hosting a March 7, 2020 literacy/reading month event for Rhosebuds of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. - Rho Sigma Chapter at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch. The event featured interactive experiences. They included return of The Classic Book Experience with The Little Red Hen featuring originator NIRMV Literacy Chair Erica Dean. NIRMV Awards/Recogniton Chair and Literacy Team Member Shirley Berry facilitated Coloring Insights. A tour of library areas designed for children and teens was another highlight. The Rhosebuds are proof that our future is in good hands. NIRMV looks forward to partnering with their advisory team to help them continue blossoming and developing skills and talents.
