In 2017, they had a summer program for children ages 7 – 10 in which the children wrote their own stories which were made into a book.

Watkins attended Wayne State University majoring in Philosophy. He visited the Children’s Hospital to read to and write with hospitalized children. Watkins also visited schools to read to and write with elementary and middle school students. Watkins wrote nine children’s books. His acclaimed Benny and the Basketball Bully was selected for a NIRMM Recommended Reading List by independent judges. Watkins was a popular keynote speaker for NIRMM Salute signature event.
